Dominican Republic takes part in Puerto Rico tourism fair
San Juan, Puerto Rico.- The president of Plaza Tours, a Puerto Rico-based tour operator, has highlighted the fact that the Dominican Republic was one of the main travel destinations for his customers in 2006, with a major market share.
Speaking at the tourism fair being held in Puerto Rico, Damián Morell said that his company would start promoting all-year vacation sales as well the traditionally popular summer season.
In a presentation, Morell optimistically announced that sales had increased 160% in 2006 compared to the previous year, “despite the increase in the cost of living and the economic crisis experienced in Puerto Rico over the last year”.
Over 200 travel agencies took part in the fair, which was held in the Puerto Rican Police Convention Center, and Cosette García, director of the Dominican Republic’s Tourism Promotion Office on the neighboring island publicly acknowledged the organizers’ congratulations.
She said that this year she hopes that the Dominican Republic’s Tourism Promotion Office will receive increased support, “in order to confront the challenge posed by the new U.S. regulation that makes it compulsory for all travelers to hold passports.
Cosette García declared that the Dominican Tourism Ministry is willing to work with Plaza Tours in order to find solutions to the problems created by the new passport rule. “We will be running aggressive advertising campaigns that will contribute to confronting this issue”.
